The MRA has the long term aim of officially changing the name of our part of Rostrevor to Morialta.

A concerted campaign was launched in 2005, winning the overwhelming support of residents who were surveyed and responded to an MRA petition.

The Adelaide Hills Council backed the proposal and enthusiastic residents raised more than $2,000 to help the campaign. However, the proposal was eventually knocked back by the State Government’s Geographical Names Unit, which cited various bureaucratic obstacles.

Residents of neighboring Woodforde and Montacute, also part of the Adelaide Hills Council, objected strongly to the MRA area being renamed Morialta. They opposed the AHC proposal as it took a significant land area within the Conservation Park from their suburb to make up the proposed new ‘Morialta’. More than 65 percent of the Woodforde suburb is actually Morialta Conservation Park land.

The name change issue will not be abandoned by the MRA and a sub committee continues to work on the cause.
